The Arts

What does The Arts look like at the Coastal Federation?

The Arts at the Coastal Together Federation encompass Art and Design, Design and Technology and Music. They allow our children's imaginations and confidence to flow and flourish. We value these subjects at the Coastal Together Federation and see the importance they play in our children's lives. Our children are given the opportunity to work independently and collaboratively with success. The Arts provides our children with the freedom, materials and space to express themselves emotionally and creatively. We know that high-quality teaching in these subjects allows our children to become engaged, inspired and challenged, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, music and design.

How do we teach and enhance children's knowledge in The Arts?

The Arts can be used across all subject areas to enhance and deepen knowledge. At the Coastal Together Federation we use a range of strategies to teach these subjects effectively. Outdoor learning, artistic visits, exhibitions and performances give the children plenty of opportunities for showcasing their talent and hard work. Not only do we teach The Art subjects discreetly, but they are also used in other subjects to enhance our children's knowledge.

What is the impact of The Arts at the Coastal Together Federation?

The impact of The Arts is that children develop emotionally, academically, and holistically. They provide children with a safe space to experiment, make mistakes, and reflect. The Arts teach our children our core JONK skills which will hopefully allow our children to grow into confident learners for the future.

How do we ensure coverage and progression in The Arts?

The Arts curriculum is carefully planned to make sure that there is a progression of skills and knowledge from EYFS to Year 6, and plenty of opportunities for fun. Each of the three subjects are split into different disciplines that are revisited and built upon every academic year. In Art and Design we are currently developing sketch books which will be passed up each year to show how our children's drawing, painting and sculpting skills progress.
